Sam is a feminist political ecologist committed to environmental and social justice, working in Nepal and Scotland. Her research explores the social relations, power and politics involved in conservation, forestry and other environment and development interventions. She is particularly interested in the ways in which intersectional subjectivities, including along lines of gender, ethnicity and class, shape both the design and delivery of community-based approaches to natural resource management, and the social justice outcomes of such initiatives. Sam's work thus engages with rural communities i.e. project 'beneficiaries' and (through Participatory Action Research) with professionals working in the sector.
