Neerja Pathak is a PhD Candidate at the School of Social and Political Science. Her doctoral research is a study of the first name changing practices of women post marriage in West India. In studying this practice, she is engaging in the gender power relations entrenched in this practice as well as unravelling the intertwining of religion, rituals, caste, bureaucracy, identity and patriarchy. She is especially interested in the affective landscape of this practice for the people involved. Name narratives embedded in life experiences and beliefs is the major method she employs in the project.
